Not fewer than five people were killed on Sunday, January 29 when some gunmen stormed a Quebec city mosque during evening prayers and opened fire on Muslim faithful.

Reuters reports that the mosque’s president told reporters on Sunday that the attack shook residents of the Canadian city

It also quoted a witness as saying the gunmen, who were three in number, opened gunfire on about 40 people inside the Quebec City Islamic Cultural Centre.

The attack has thrown the North American country into deep shock with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeting:

"Tonight, Canadians grieve for those killed in a cowardly attack on a mosque in Quebec City. My thoughts are with victims & their families.”

"Why is this happening here? This is barbaric,” said the mosque's president, Mohamed Yangui.
Meanwhile, Reuters quotes Quebec police on the scene as saying that two people had been arrested.
The authorities are trying to determine if it was an act of terrorism although no immediate details were given on the suspects.
