Give us social amenities, Lepers demand

Lepers in Sabon - Gari, Demsa Local Government Area of
Adamawa State have appealed to the state government to
provide them with social amenities .
The lepers complained on Saturday that the area required link
road, schools , electricity and potable water .
Mr Benos Sagba , State Vice Chairman , National Association of
People Living with Leprosy, made the appeal on behalf of the
community in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria .
He urged Gov . Muhammadu Jibrillah to assist the leprosy
resettlement centre with social amenities , as it has been
completely neglected .

“We are appealing to Gov. Muhammadu Jibrillah to assist the
leprosy resettlement with road linking the community.
“Others include rehabilitation of our children ’s school and
provision of teaching and learning facility as well as to
complete the electricity project which was abandoned years
ago. ”
He noted that the community was in dire need of government
intervention to help their children acquire education and move
out of poverty.
Sagba lamented that 95 per cent of the parents living in the
community were suffering from leprosy which made it difficult
for them to earn enough with which to send their children to
school.
“We are also looking for government to assist us with food ,
clothes and medicine , ” he added .
